Flower Mound began as a settlement in the early 1840s, but was not incorporated until 1961. Significant population growth took place in the area after the opening of the nearby Dallas/Fort Worth Airport, and the town enjoyed one of the fastest growth rates in the nation in the last quarter of the 20th century. Flower Mound real estate is conveniently located to the nearby Dallas metropolitan area, and many of those who live in the town make a daily commute to the city. The town has continued to attract new residents since the year 2000, with an annual growth rate of around 34 percent.

Shopping and Dining

Quite a few shopping options surround Flower Mound real estate. Located about four miles to the north, The Highlands of Flower Mound is one of the biggest shopping resources in the nation, with many different retail shopping options and dining options. In addition, Grapevine Mills to the southeast is another mall in the area and features 180 different retail stores, including J Crew, Neiman Marcus Last Call, and Forever 21. For grocery shopping, residents of Flower Mound real estate can head to Walmart or Kroger supermarket on Flower Mound Road to name a couple, and there is a Walgreens pharmacy on Long Prairie Road.

Fine dining options in and around Flower Mound include Twelve Stones Restaurant on Flower Mound Road and Alforno's Italian Kitchen on Morriss Road. Several options are available around town for Mexican cuisine, such as Agave Azul Mexican Kitchen and Cristina's Fine Mexican Restaurant, and those in the mood for Asian cuisine can head to Empress of China on Justin Road. A quick bite to eat can be enjoyed near Flower Mound real estate at Chick-fil-A or McDonald's, both of which are located on Long Prairie Road.

Parks and Recreation

Altogether, Flower Mound offers 54 different parks and recreation centers in and around town. Grapevine Lake located just to the south of Flower Mound provides area residents with quite a few different opportunities for enjoying the outdoors. Both Murrell Park and Rockledge Park are located along the shores of the lake and feature opportunities for fishing, boating, swimming, and more. Further afield, Trophy Club Park is found to the west of Grapevine Lake and offers trails for both hiking and ATV riding. Golfers who reside in Flower Mound real estate can spend a leisurely afternoon out on the course of Bridlewood Golf Club or Grapevine Golf Course located to the southeast.

Flower Mound residents can head to the Flower Mound Community Activity Center of the Lewisville Recreation Center in Lewisville to participate in team sports, aquatics, and other community activities. In addition, a YMCA in Coppell offers those in the area the opportunity to participate in fitness training and exercise programs, and the Nytex Sports Centre in North Richland Hills offers young and old alike the opportunity to enjoy hockey and public skating.

Living

The town of Flower Mound had a population of almost 70,000 as of 2012, and the many attractions of the area continue to draw new residents each year. Compared to the rest of Texas, the cost of living is slightly high. The cost of living index of the town compared to the entire country was recorded at 103 in the spring of 2012. Residents of Flower Mound enjoy living in an area with a low population density of about 1700 people per square mile. Those who reside in this Texas town tend to enjoy salaries that are considerably higher than that of those living in other parts of Texas, and real estate in Flower Mound is on average more than twice the price of real estate in other parts of the state.

Schools, Health, Transportation

The town of Flower Mound is divided between several different school districts, but the Lewisville Independent School District is the most prominent. Schools in Flower Mound include McKamy Middle School, Flower Mound High School, Shadow Ridge Middle School, and Forestwood Middle School. Several private schools are located in and around town, including Corem Deo Academy and Primrose School of NE Flower Mound. Those pursuing higher education near Flower Mound can study at Deloitte University in Westlake, The University of Texas at Arlington, or one of the many universities located nearby in Dallas.

Health care institutions located around Flower Mound include the Medical Center of Lewisville located to the east in Lewisville, the Baylor Medical Center in Carrollton, and the Texas Arlington Memorial Hospital in Arlington.

For intercity transportation services, residents of Flower Mound real estate can head into both Dallas and Carrollton for Greyhound service or Dallas for Amtrak service from the station located on South Houston Street. The closest airport to Flower Mound is the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport.
