Haltom City is a convenient suburb to the Fort Worth area with a population of 43,400 residents as of 2012. Originally known as Birdville, Haltom City was incorporated in 1949 and has gradually expanded over the years since its incorporation to include the nearby neighborhoods of Oak Knoll, Garden of Eden, and East Ridge. With the motto of "A place to call home", Haltom City attracts new residents on a yearly basis and has a population that has been steadily growing since 2000.

Shopping and Dining

Some of the shopping centers that are most convenient to Haltom City real estate are the North East Mall in Hurst and Lincoln Square in Arlington. The North East Mall includes stores for an extensive variety of retailers- including Barnes & Noble, Coach, and Aeropostale- along with a selection of convenient dining options. Lincoln Square offers a variety of shopping and dining options while also being located near Arlington's AT&T Stadium. For errands in and around Haltom City, area residents can head to Kroger or Save-a-Lot on Denton Highway or the Walmart Neighborhood Market in Bedford or the Whole Foods Market in Arlington.

Many of Haltom City’s local dining options are located along Denton Highway. When hunger strikes, residents can head to Oscar's Mexican Restaurant, Hoffsbraus Steaks, or The Café for classic comfort foods. Diners in the mood for Asian cuisine can try Haltom Chinese or Ku's Sushi.

Parks and Recreation

The Haltom City area is dotted with quite a few community parks, such as Haltom Road Park and North Park, both towards the northwest of the community. Those looking to get further away from the big city and to be immersed in nature can head to Cado-LBJ National Grasslands or the Ray Roberts Lake State Park. A recreation center is available to residents of Haltom City real estate within North Park. The Haltom City Recreation Center located on Broadway Avenue is open every day of the week except Sunday and includes a fitness room and recreation equipment for community members of all ages.


Haltom City is an affordable place to live. The community features median home value of $86,600, lower than that of the rest of Texas and a cost of living index of 94.4. The population density in Haltom City is fairly low considering the city's close proximity to the large city of Fort Worth, and the city's unemployment rate was almost two percentage points lower than the national average as of August of 2013.

Schools, Health, and Transportation

Students residing in Haltom City real estate typically attend schools run by the Birdville Independent School District. However, some schools within the city are under the control of the Keller Independent School District or the Fort Worth Independent School District. In addition, several private institutions located in the area provide another option to students and families in the Haltom City area. Haltom City schools include Haltom High School, Haltom Middle School, Birdville Elementary School, and Bethesda Christian School. Several institutions of higher learning are located in Fort Worth, and the closest centers for university studies to Haltom City are the Tarrant County College Texas Wesleyan University, or Texas Christian Univerisity, all of which are located in nearby Fort Worth.

The T&R Clinic on Markum Drive is a healthcare center located within Haltom City. Hospitals in the area include the Cook Children's Medical Center and the Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital in Forth Worth, as well as the Texas Health Arlington Memorial Hospital and the Millwood Hospital in Arlington.

For transportation needs, residents of Haltom City real estate have a few options to choose from. The Fort Worth Transportation Authority offers both bus service and commuter rail service throughout the Fort Worth area, with bus route 11 picking up on Beach Street on the western side of Haltom City. For intercity transportation, Haltom City residents can rely on either Amtrak for rail service or Greyhound for bus service.

For longer trips including both international and domestic flights, those residing in Haltom City real estate can head to the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, located approximately 30 mintues away. However, there are several smaller airports located in the area, including the Grand Prairie Municipal Airport and the Meacham International Airport.
