The town of Lewisville in the northeast of Texas features a pleasant climate, a healthy economic environment, and numerous recreational resources that have attracted many new residents to the area in recent years. Originally known as Holford's Prairie, the city of Lewisville was incorporated in January of 1925. Throughout its history, Lewisville has been steadily growing, with the arrival of the railroad in the early 1880s and the opening of the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport in the 1970s both drastically boosting the city's population. The city is located in Denton County– within 30 minutes of Dallas– and features a strong, diverse economy with an unemployment rate that is about two percentage points lower than that of the entire nation as of October of 2013.

Shopping and Dining

Residents of Lewisville can head to the Vista Ridge Mall to satisfy many of their shopping needs. Located on South Stemmons Freeway, the Vista Ridge Mall features more than 130 different specialty shops such as Hollister Co. and Victoria's Secret. Grocers include the Kroger supermarket on Old Denton Road in Carrollton. In addition, pharmacy goods can be purchased at either the pharmacy in the Walmart Supercenter on West Main Street or the Tom Thumb located on Farm to Market 3040 to name a couple.

For quality dining experiences, area residents can stop by Wild Ginger for Japanese cuisine or The Grotto on Highland Village Road for steakhouse fare. Italian fare can be had at Parma's Pasta & Pizza on East Round Grove Road, and those in the mood for Mexican cuisine can try either the Dallas Tortilla & Tamale Factory or try "street" style tacos at Taco Hut. Staple fast food dining options are available in Lewisville, including Chipotle on Main Street, Whataburger on North Stemmons Freeway, Steak n' Shake on Highway 121, and Chick-fil-A on East Round Grove Road.

Parks and Recreation

Recreational opportunities abound in and around Lewisville, with the nearby Lewisville Lake providing residents of Lewisville real estate with the possibility of enjoying water sports and fishing. Several different parks surround the lake– including West Lake Park and Oakland Park. There are also several golf courses located around the lake. Those looking for a leisurely afternoon of golf can head to either the Lake Park Golf Course or The Tribute Golf Club on the eastern shore of the lake. Parks located within the town of Lewisville itself include Memorial Park, Central Park, and Oak Park.

Lewisville features two recreation centers. Herring Recreation Center on Civic Circle, offers organized sports, exercise programs, and many more opportunities for area residents can socialize or work out together. Interskate Roller Rink is another recreational facility within Lewisville that offers public skating and private parties. The Zone Action Park on North Summit Avenue is a great entertainment resource in the area with go-carts, miniature golf, batting cages, and more.


With a cost of living index of about 95, Lewisville is a fairly affordable area in comparison to the rest of the country. While the average home value in the city is slightly higher than that of the rest of Texas, the average income also tends to be fairly high at almost $56,000 as of 2011. The city features a rather young population with a median age of about 31– approximately 10 years less than the median age in the rest of the state. Both Plano and Dallas are located within 25 miles of Lewisville, and many residents of Lewisville commute to these nearby cities on a daily basis.

Schools, Health, Transportation

Young students attending public school in Lewisville study at one of the institutions run by the Lewisville Independent School District. Public schools in the district include the Lewisville High School, The Colony High School, Delay Middle School, and Central Elementary School. Residents of Lewisville real estate who wish to send their children to a private educational institution can choose from quite a few different schools, including Lakeland Christian Academy on Stemmons Fairway and Willow Bend Academy on East Southwest Parkway. Nearby universities include Southern Methodist University, Brookhaven College, and Collin County Community College.

For healthcare, those residing in Lewisville real estate can head to the Medical Center of Lewisville for acute care and emergency services. Also, the Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Flower Mound is located only about four miles from Lewisville and Baylor Medical Center is seven miles away in Carrollton. The Denton County Transportation Authority services Lewisville through regional buses that run to Carrollton and connect to DART transportation options in Dallas. Also, nearby Dallas has both Greyhound and Amtrak service in addition to the transportation resources of the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport.
