Located approximately 14 miles northeast of downtown Fort Worth, Watauga, Texas, rests comfortably on a 4.2-square-mile patch of land near US Highway 377 just east of the cloverleaf confluence of interstate highways 35W and 820. Watauga's suburban Fort Worth neighbor to the north is the city of Keller, with the communities of North Richland Hills and Haltom City sharing its borders to the southwest and southeast respectively.

According to US Census Bureau data compiled by the informational website, Sperling's Best Places, more than 23,400 people were calling Watauga home in 2012. This number represents a population growth of nearly 4 percent for the inner-ring suburban city since the year 2000. Sperling's also tells us that the median cost for a home in Watauga in 2012 was $81,200; the cost of living during that same time period was close to 12 percent lower than the U.S. average.

Shopping and Dining

Watauga has many retail options including chains such as Walmart, Target, Marshall’s and PetSmart. There and also local options at the various shopping centers including Watauga Towne Crossing, Beach Western Commons and Basswood Crossing.

The city also has a variety of dining options such as Joe’s Coffee Shop, Tex's Star Grill, Joe's Pizza & Pasta, Frescos Cocina and Chef Point Cafe which is famous for its bread pudding and was featured on the Food Network’s Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives.

Nearby Fort Worth is the 16th largest city in the United States. As such, it offers pretty much all of the shopping and dining experiences you expect to find in a major metropolitan area. One unique, must-go dining and entertainment emporiums in "Cowtown" is Sundance Square.

Sprawling across 35 square blocks in downtown Fort Worth, Sundance Square offers an eclectic array of live music clubs; restaurants, eateries and cafes; taverns, saloons and bars; and myriad other shopping, dining and partying establishments.

Parks and Recreation

The City of Watauga's Parks and Community Services Department manages and maintains several gorgeous, multi-use, city and neighborhood parks and recreational facilities.

Watauga's Community Center provides a gymnasium, fitness center, activity room and an entertainment area, as well as a wide variety of athletic programs for youths and adults of all shapes, sizes and skill levels.

Located in Denton County north of Fort Worth and northwest of Dallas, Roanoke, Texas is a rapidly growing community full of friendly neighbors, good schools, and great local amenities. Known for its small-town ambience and local restaurants, the town is one of the most unique places in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

Shopping and Dining

A quick Google search reveals why Roanoke is known as “the unique dining capital of Texas.” Home to more than 40 highly ranked local restaurants and eateries, the town offers a wide variety of culinary delights, from mouth-watering chicken fried steaks and downhome Louisiana cooking to enchiladas, tortellini, and sirloin barbeque. Many of the area’s most popular restaurants, including Babe’s Chicken Dinner House and the Oak St. Pie & Candy Co, are located in Roanoke’s historic downtown. Creative dishes meet upscale elegance and cozy comfort at The Classic Café. Known for its award-winning wine list and fresh produce, the cafe is a 2012 Diners’ Choice top pick. Bayou Jack’s Cajun Grill is a local favorite for quality Cajun food, including blackened dishes, Jambalya, and po boys. Additional Roanoke restaurants include Tacos and Avacados, Blue Hangar Café, Twisted Root Burger Co., Reno Red’s Frontier Cooking, Dove Creek Café, Brix Pizza and Wine Bar, Sonic, Wendy’s, and Chili’s. Shops in Roanoke include grocery stores, bookstores, consignment shops, pharmacies, and more.

Parks and Recreation

Roanoke is home to six public parks, all of which offer ample opportunity for enjoying the outdoors. Roanoke Community Park features baseball and softball fields, a half-mile walking trail, a fishing pier and pond, playground equipment, and picnic areas. Fairplay Park features sports fields, walking trails, playground equipment, swings, and a community pool with water slides. The large open fields at Cannon Parkway Park and Parks of Roanoke are perfect for kite flying and soccer games. In addition to the field, the Parks of Roanoke is home to a basketball court, a lighted walking trail, a children’s playground, and a splash pad. Additional playgrounds and basketball courts can be found at Country Acres Park. Walking trails are also available at Linear Park and the city’s Soccer Complex. The Roanoke Recreation Center features a gymnasium, weight room, game room, racquetball court, and children’s center. Group classes, swim lessons, sports leagues, and summer camps also are available. For a little more excitement, residents can head over to the Alliance Skatepark in nearby Grand Prairie or the Texas Motor Speedway, located just four miles east of town.


Home to approximately 6,000 people, Roanoke offers a friendly small-town environment in the midst of a bustling metropolitan area. Residents enjoy coming together for community events and festivals, such as the annual Fourth of July celebration, which features children’s activities and games, live music, and good food. Median home price in 2012 was $149,300.

Schools, Health, and Transportation

The children of Roanoake are served by the Northwest Independent School District. A rapidly growing district, Northwest ISD’s student population has tripled over the past ten years. New schools, including Truett Wilson Middle School, have been added to keep up with the district’s growth. A new elementary school is scheduled to open in Roanoke in August 2013.

Several top-quality medical providers are located in nearby Trophy Club, including the Arlington Cancer Center. The TrueMedicine primary care clinics, also in Trophy Club, provide patient-centered healthcare services to adult residents. Additional hospitals and medical centers are located throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Built just east of I-35W around Highway 114 and U.S. Route 377, Roanoke real estate offers easy access to Denton, Fort Worth, and Dallas. The Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport is only 15 miles away.
