Located approximately 14 miles northeast of downtown Fort Worth, Watauga, Texas, rests comfortably on a 4.2-square-mile patch of land near US Highway 377 just east of the cloverleaf confluence of interstate highways 35W and 820. Watauga's suburban Fort Worth neighbor to the north is the city of Keller, with the communities of North Richland Hills and Haltom City sharing its borders to the southwest and southeast respectively.

According to US Census Bureau data compiled by the informational website, Sperling's Best Places, more than 23,400 people were calling Watauga home in 2012. This number represents a population growth of nearly 4 percent for the inner-ring suburban city since the year 2000. Sperling's also tells us that the median cost for a home in Watauga in 2012 was $81,200; the cost of living during that same time period was close to 12 percent lower than the U.S. average.

Shopping and Dining

Watauga has many retail options including chains such as Walmart, Target, Marshall’s and PetSmart. There and also local options at the various shopping centers including Watauga Towne Crossing, Beach Western Commons and Basswood Crossing.

The city also has a variety of dining options such as Joe’s Coffee Shop, Tex's Star Grill, Joe's Pizza & Pasta, Frescos Cocina and Chef Point Cafe which is famous for its bread pudding and was featured on the Food Network’s Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives.

Nearby Fort Worth is the 16th largest city in the United States. As such, it offers pretty much all of the shopping and dining experiences you expect to find in a major metropolitan area. One unique, must-go dining and entertainment emporiums in "Cowtown" is Sundance Square.

Sprawling across 35 square blocks in downtown Fort Worth, Sundance Square offers an eclectic array of live music clubs; restaurants, eateries and cafes; taverns, saloons and bars; and myriad other shopping, dining and partying establishments.

Parks and Recreation

The City of Watauga's Parks and Community Services Department manages and maintains several gorgeous, multi-use, city and neighborhood parks and recreational facilities.

Watauga's Community Center provides a gymnasium, fitness center, activity room and an entertainment area, as well as a wide variety of athletic programs for youths and adults of all shapes, sizes and skill levels.

Living

As part of the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex, Watauga enjoys close proximity to the fourth highest concentration of Fortune 500 headquarters in all of the United States, which offers the suburban community's residents an enormous number of employment options. ExxonMobile, American Airlines, RadioShack and GE Manufacturing Solutions are only a few of the well-known companies with homes in the sprawling metropolitan area.

Nearby Fort Worth is also flush with diverse art and culture opportunities, such as the breathtaking exhibits on display in its Cultural District; the second-to-none American West showcase at the Stockyards National Historic District; the world-renowned Fort Worth Zoo; and the thrilling life-in-the-fast-lane experience at Texas Motor Speedway.

Perhaps the most notable recognition given to Watauga and the rest of urban and suburban Fort Worth is the No. 4 ranking it received on the aforementioned Sperling's Best Places' list of The Best Cities to Relocate to in America in 2011.

Schools, Health, Transportation

Two independent school districts share the K-12 public education duties for the city of Watauga: Birdville Independent School District covers most of the town, with Keller Independent School District serving primarily its northwestern corner.

There are a number of fine hospitals, medical care centers and health care facilities near Watauga, some of which include North Hills Hospital in North Richland Hills, Southwest Surgical Hospital in Hurst City and Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth.

Numerous highways crisscross Watauga and the rest of the rapidly expanding Dallas/Fort Worth metropolitan area, including the interstate highways 35, 20 and 30. While there is no public transportation option within the city of Watauga itself, the Fort Worth Transit Authority or The-T Opperates buses and several rail options. The Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport is only about 22 miles west and a little north of downtown Watauga.
